Mrs. Jennifer Newkirk

Mrs. Jennifer Newkirk (M.Ed.) is experienced in teaching in public, private, and online settings and has been deeply involved with serving homeschool families and students since 2001, when she founded the Midlands Home School Band. She has homeschooled each of her children to varying degrees and has lifetime membership with the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA). Mrs. Newkirk joined the FreedomProject Academy team in 2017. She is excited to have a great year with your student and to encourage a love of learning through classical education.

Through high school, Jennifer was a competitive trombonist, earning spots in All-State Bands and the Governor’s School for the Arts. She completed her Bachelor of Music and Music Education degrees at the University of South Carolina, where she also served as drum major for the USC Marching Band. She also became drum major for the Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps (Drum Corps International); traveled nationally as a drum major instructor for Marching Auxiliaries of America; taught USC drum major camps; and served five years as a judge for marching band competitions across the Carolinas.

Mrs. Newkirk completed her Master of Education degree at Columbia International University in 2004, eventually serving as Vice Principal for grades K-8 at a private Christian school. She is lifetime certified as both a teacher and administrator/principal with the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).

Mrs. Newkirk and her husband have four children. She enjoys supporting her children’s engagement in church life, community activities, learning to play musical instruments, taking family outings and more. She teaches concert band for a community arts education organization, and her family is active with Trail Life USA and American Heritage Girls.
