First-time Elementary students are required to take reading and math placement tests in order to place students at grade levels where they can succeed. First-time students entering FreedomProject Academy's Junior High and High School are required to take a math and English placement test. Present students who have not taken a math course with FPA must also take a placement test should they choose to add a math course.
All potential Physical Science, Astronomy, Chemistry, and Physics students who have not successfully completed Pre-Algebra for Physical Science and Astronomy, Algebra I for Chemistry, or Algebra II for Physics with FPA must take a math placement test, which measures a student’s understanding of the mathematical concepts necessary for success in the science course, before enrollment in Physical Science, Chemistry, or Physics can be finalized.
Those who have not been with FPA for their first year of foreign language must take a test for placement in a second or third year of foreign language. We have found that incorrect placement is very difficult to correct once classes have started.
Our school is rigorous. We expect students to attend class, pay attention, turn in assignments on time, and study hard to learn and retain the content we are teaching. Due dates are given and enforced so students learn life lessons of being responsible with their time and to those in authority.
Elementary students should expect to work on assignments outside of class for two hours per day including Fridays (though no classes are held on Fridays). Students who are on grade level should spend on average two hours per day on homework Monday through Friday, even though no live classes are held on Friday. Sixth grade students should expect to work three to four hours per course outside of class time. Junior High and High School students should expect to work on assignments outside of class for five hours per week per course. Parental involvement and supervision is a MUST for student success.
