7th/8th Economics

The first semester of the course involves learning the history of economics in an engaging format that includes illustrations and humor to break down issues that can be complex. Students learn how society has progressed from trading goods to using currency through the use of a graphic novel. The second semester involves students learning smart money attitudes, how to spend wisely, and planning for the future. Other topics studied during the course include entrepreneurship, budgeting, writing a resume, opening a bank account, bank loans, credit card use, and God's principles when it comes to money.

Students will complete several projects throughout the year. Examples include a "Shark Tank" project where they come up with a new or improved product or service and learn how they would take it to market; "buying" a car, a house and a high ticket item that they would need to finance; and making a budget for themselves based on the average salary of their current career interest.
