SCIENCE CLASSES

Our full-year tuition includes 5 full-year courses. Feedback from parents, students, and teachers indicates that this workload achieves a balance of academic rigor while leaving time for outside activities. It is possible to add additional courses for an additional charge, but we strongly encourage students to take no more than five courses.

    SYLLABUS
Taught from the perspective that the principles of physical science derive from natural laws instituted by the Creator God, this course introduces students to the scientific method and the rudiments of physical science. Beginning with basics such as atomic structure and measurement, students learn about air, the atmosphere, water, the hydrosphere, the lithosphere, weather, motion, Newton’s laws of motion, gravity, magnetism, and electricity. Hands-on experiments use household chemicals and supplies.

    SYLLABUS
A college-preparatory chemistry education, employing the “atoms first” approach to chemistry, provides foundational information about atoms and molecules that allows for a logical and sequential presentation of topics. Topics of study include classification of matter, atomic structure, spectroscopy, chemical bonding, molecular geometry, physical change, chemical change, stoichiometry, solutions, ideal gases, acid/base chemistry, reduction/oxidation reactions, thermochemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, and chemical equilibrium. Students are taught to think as chemists to analyze changes in matter using the concepts of chemistry and their mathematical applications.
